On the 28th December 2015 the third Togher Athletics Club 5k Christmas road race in association with Cork Mental Health Foundation will take place. This is an AAI registered and chip timed event. Prizes and refreshments are generously sponsored by Ryan’s SuperValu in Togher. On Saturday 5th December, the launch took place at Ryan’s SuperValu. Members of Cork Mental Health Foundation, Togher AC and representatives of Ryan’s SuperValu heard how the Togher 5k race has grown each year and it is hoped that 2015 will be the best year yet. There will be a carnival atmosphere on the day with entertainment before and after the race kindly being provided by Pat Fitz (http://www.patfitz.ie), so runners/walkers and supporters are sure to enjoy!
Frank Doherty, Chairperson of Togher AC, welcomed runners and walkers of all abilities to take part in the race, which will start at Ryan’s SuperValu in Togher. Registration is €12 and proceeds go to Cork Mental Health Foundation and Togher AC. On the day registration will be in Togher Boys National School (15 min walk from start line). Togher Athletic Club (est. 1966), has 256 members, 145 of whom are juvenile and 111 senior members. Togher AC caters for a wide range of abilities and age groups with a thriving Little Athletics section (7-12 years), juvenile event group coaching (13-18 years), Fit4Life group, junior, senior & masters competitive athletes. There are various training programs prescribed by qualified coaches to cater for the needs of each level of athlete from beginners to elite. Rob Heffernan, World Champion, took his first steps with Togher AC at the age of 12 and was nurtured to be the greatest.
Background Information on Cork Mental Health Foundation
Cork Mental Health Foundation is a registered charity which promotes positive mental health within the community offering mental health awareness presentations and workshops to employers, community groups, Schools etc.
Established in 1962 the organisation has been supporting the people of through the promotion of positive mental health and also providing housing to people who have experienced mental health difficulties through the Housing Association.
