Cork’s only senior Minister; Minister for Defence, Mr. Simon Coveney, T.D., this morning attended the Naval Service Reserve Commissioning Ceremony at the Naval Base, in Haulbowline, Co. Cork.
Speaking at the Commissioning Ceremony, Minister Coveney offered his congratulations to the three newly commissioned officers of the Naval Service Reserve and remarked that “Today’s ceremony marks the culmination of your many years of commitment and dedicated service to the Naval Service Reserve and your successful completion of a very thorough programme of training. You are taking up your duties as newly commissioned officers in an organisation that you clearly believe in and one to which you are deeply committed. It is a day when each of you and your families are entitled to feel very proud.”
Minister Coveney also paid tribute to the families of the new officers “It is also important to acknowledge the family support and backing that enables members of the Reserve attend the parades, exercises, camps and other activities that take place throughout the year. In that context, I am delighted to see your family members here today. The support of families is essential for the organisation to survive and is greatly appreciated”.
