Cork City will be in competitive action for the first time in 2011, as they take on Waterford United at the RSC on Sunday in the Munster Senior Cup.
City boss Tommy Dunne, already without long-term injury Stephen Mulcahy (groin) who is sidelined until April, must plan for the fixture without the services of Greg O’Halloran (ankle) and Alan Carey (Achilles). The City side that lines up on Sunday is likely to differ significantly to the teams fielded in the friendlies against Cobh Ramblers and Shamrock Rovers, as the trialists who featured in those fixtures are not eligible for this game.
Speaking ahead of the game, Dunne told CorkCityFC.net that his side were looking forward to the tie: “We’re still in pre-season, but it is a competitive fixture, so there will be that bit more edge to the game. It’s a good fixture for us and I hope it will be a good workout for the lads. Waterford is always a tough place to go, but we are looking forward to the game and I hope we will give a good account of ourselves.”
