Minister of State at Department of Foreign Affairs, Seán Sherlock, has welcomed the appointment of former Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore, as EU Envoy for the Peace Process in Colombia.
“As a former Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore brings a wealth of experience and skill to the international stage,” said Minister Sherlock, who is part of the Irish delegation at the talks in Stormont House in Northern Ireland.
“As leader of the Labour Party he restored the international reputation of Ireland following our economic collapse, at a time when foreign direct investment had all but dried up.
“The partnership of Eamon Gilmore and Enda Kenny during the Irish presidency of the European Union in 2013 ensured that the EU budget was agreed on our watch.”
Eamon Gilmore’s work on the Haas/O’Sullivan talks process was vital to informing the work now underway at Stormont House. His work as an astute negotiator will serve him well in this role.”
