Cork Southwest Fine Gael TD Jim Daly has confirmed to the TheCork.ie this week that following his discussions with Cork County Council and the NRA the go ahead has been approved for the relocation of one of West Cork’s most controversial pedestrian crossings and the erection of additional public lighting at the western end of Bandon Town.
“I am pleased to have received confirmation from the NRA this week that they are to install additional public lighting along the Bandon bypass to enhance safety at the GAA grounds and surrounding area. They have also agreed to relocate the existing pedestrian crossing at the bypass junction further west along the Clonakilty road”
stated Jim Daly who added that the works will begin shortly and are to be concluded before the end of this year. Describing the existing Pedestrian crossing as Hazardous, Jim Daly said the two issues had been raised with him on numerous occasions while calling door to door to residents in the town of Bandon who feared for the safety of pedestrians at this junction.
Deputy Daly concluded by adding that he is continuing to negotiate further additional public lighting along the bypass on the N71 and Kilbrittain road to eliminate the existing blackspot which he described as unacceptable in a built up area.
