It’s the road that Queen Elizabeth II travelled on her entrance to Cork,
It’s a road that used to be a Railway line
It’s a road that runs past the former dump
and it’s a road that welcomes visitors to Cork City, with the sight of the City Centre’s only skyscraper: The Elysian,
It’s a road that stretches from the Elysian to the equally infamous Kinsale Road Roundabout.
The Road? It’s the South Link, technicality known as the N27.
Today the Minister for Transport announced a €750,000 investment in the artery.
Fine Gael Senator Colm Burke for Cork North Central was the first Oireachtas member to confirm the News to TheCork.ie
saying “€750,000 in funding has now been allocated to Cork City Council.This is part of a €34 million stimulus fund secured in July for critical remedial works, maintenance and strengthening of the road network at national, regional and local level.”
The Solicitor Senator continued:
“This funding for the N27 South City Link between Kinsale Road Roundabout and City Centre is going to be used for resurfacing on the City bound Carriageway of N27 between Kinsale Road Roundabout to City Centre.”
The project will go to construction later this year. The Government Senator concluded:
“The Government is committed to spreading the economic recovery to all regions of the country. Ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of our road network is essential in facilitating our future economic growth and securing job creation. A good road network helps to attract investment and improves efficiency for small business around the country. Ensuring that all areas of the country are accessible on a well maintained road network is good for small businesses and for the communities that benefit when those businesses are thriving.”
