Deputy Noel O’Flynn T.D. has welcomed the announcement by Cork City Council that a pilot scheme is to be introduced shortly in Mayfield, where by a set of bottle banks (3×1100 litres wheel bins fixed in place) would be placed in three different locations in the Mayfield area from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.
The move takes place after the bottle banks were removed from the Mayfield Shopping Centre following requests to do so by the landlord and traders at the centre.
Speaking on the scheme Deputy O’Flynn said; “this is a positive step by the Council. I am pleased that the Council has responded to the needs of the people, whose communities have been at a loss without this important service. This is a sign that the Council are listening to concerns and needs of the people in our City.”
The pilot collection scheme will continue for a three month period and will be monitored taking into account its effectiveness and community support.
Cork City Council will be advertising the collection points locally in the coming weeks.
