Sinn Féin TD Sandra McLellan has stated that the best way that the people of Cork can support the striking Dunnes Stores workers is by refusing to pass the picket.
Deputy McLellan said;
“The people of Cork should show their solidarity with the Dunnes Stores workers tomorrow by refusing to pass the picket. This is the best way to support the workers in their fight for secure hours, decent pay and fair working conditions.
“The management of Dunnes Stores have a responsibility to bring this situation to an end by engaging with the workers and their trade union representatives.
“These workers are taking a stand against low pay and zero hour contracts which are the cause of hardship for ordinary families
“These workers have been left without any other option but to strike. This not an appropriate way to treat workers and it must be challenged.
“Sinn Féin firmly supports the Dunnes Stores workers. They deserve decency, fairness and security at work.
“Management must step up to the plate and begin a meaningful negotiation process.
“The best way to support the Dunnes Stores workers is to refuse to pass the picket tomorrow.”
