Local Labour T.D Michael McCarthy has welcomed the allocation of just over €564,000 for 187 regional festivals and events taking place this year.
“I am delighted that this support is going to a range of popular festivals in Cork. The huge range of festivals being supported by Fáilte Ireland under the Regional Programme of the Festivals and Events initiative includes festivals like the Masters of Tradition in Cork, A Taste of West Cork, the West Cork Literary Festival, the Schull Regatta and the Cape Clear Island Storytelling Festival, to name but a few. This year there is a particular focus on promoting the hugely successful Wild Atlantic Way.
“These events will provide the backbone to the tourism calendar in many local and rural communities. Our local festivals and events are the perfect opportunity to showcase all that Ireland has to offer, whether it’s our culture, our people or our places. This funding is a welcome boost for the broad and expansive range of festivals and events taking place in right throughout Cork over the summer season.
“Festivals are the lifeblood of Irish tourism and they play a critical role in local areas attracting footfall into communities with significant spin-off for local businesses. This vital funding will go a long way to ensuring that they continue to successfully grow and expand.
“I look forward to all these events getting underway over the summer.”
