Never mind watching the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Cork this year – you could be in it. Cork Community Art Link (CCAL) is inviting the people of Cork to join Cultural Mechanics, their entry for this year’s Cork St Patrick’s Day Parade.
The charity organisation, who successfully ran the spectacular Dragon of Shandon Festival last Halloween, are busy preparing for their St. Patrick’s Day parade entry – a humorous take on this year’s theme, ‘Culture’. The entry, which is composed of three giant “culture machines” and 5 local community groups, is currently in production in their new premises in the Marina Commercial Park.
“From mobile phone operating apes, to gigantic mechanical heads, there’s something for everyone – even a space ship!” says CCAL Manager Aoife Potter-Cogan. “The next few weeks will be very busy for us, building, painting and rehearsing, and we would love people to join us and get involved. St Patrick’s Day is all about celebrating who we are and what better way to do it than parading through the streets”.
If you would like to be part of Cultural Mechanics, you can call in to the CCAL workshop and learn to make props, floats and costumes, or simply sign up to be in the parade on the 17th of March. All are welcome and no experience is required – just lots of good energy and a sense of humour!
