Gardaí have arrested an 18-year-old male and recovered a firearm following an overnight incident at a house in Co. Cork.
At approximately 11pm Gardaí from Kinsale were called to an incident at a house near Minane Bridge. On the arrival of gardaí a number of gun shots were fired from the house. No one was injured. Armed gardaí from the Regional Support Unit and Garda Crisis Negotiators attended the scene. A cordon was put in place and a neighbouring house was evacuated as a precaution. During a Garda operation two occupants of the house, who were unarmed, were removed to safety. At approximately 2.20am an 18-year-old male was located in a nearby outhouse by Gardaí from the Regional Support Unit. The male was arrested and a loaded shotgun was recovered and the incident concluded without injury.
No shots were discharged by gardaí during the incident.
The male is currently detained under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Bandon Garda Station.
The scene is preserved for a technical examination and the investigation is ongoing.
