Tidy Towns
Carrigaline Tidy Towns appreciate the support and encouragement they receive from the general public at large. Great credit is due to the local Cork County Council office, to the numerous local businesses and industry, to the numerous residents associations and especially to all the volunteers who beaver away all year round to make Carrigaline a nicer place to live in. The summer bedding programme is completed.
Schools relocating
The New 22 acre school campus on the Ballinrea Road is near completion and is expected to be ready for the start of the new school season. The Gaelscoil is moving from their current building and numerous prefabs into a 24 room facility, the Gaelcholáiste move from a temporary rented property at Waterpark to a 500 pupil state of the art facility. Sonas are moving from the former Church of Ireland NS on the Cork Road to their specially designed national school. The secondary school students from Sonas will move into the vacated Gaelscoil.
CEPT
The Carrigaline Ecumenical Project team recently welcomed the Syrian family of five whom they are sponsoring. The family left Syria 10 years ago and have since been living in a refugee camp in Lebanon. They arrived safely in Ireland and are so appreciative and happy in their new home. They are getting acclimatised and settling in with language support to learn English. They wish to thank the local community especially Rev Fr Pat Fogarty PP and Canon Elaine Murray for the great welcome they were given.
Comhaltas
Comhaltas na Dúglaise continues their activities outdoors for the summer months. The younger musicians played in Douglas Community Park on a few Wednesday evenings from 6.30 to 7.30pm. The adult grupa plays from 7.30pm to 9.00pm every Thursday at Blackrock Pier. A group of branch musicians led an end of year session in Gaelscoil na Dúglaise last week. The branch will perform outdoors for staff and residents of retirement homes during the coming months. Enquiries douglas@comhaltas.net
