The planning process for the Port of Cork’s proposed move to Ringakiddy has
been criticised as being unfairly weighted against the local community.
The Port wants to leave Tivoli and move all traffic to Ringaskiddy where
the deeper water can accommodate modern larger ships.
But in order to secure planning permission the Port first needs the N28
Ringaskiddy-Carrigaline to Cork road to be upgraded to a dual-carriageway
or motorway.
The Chief Executive of the County Council Tim Lucey is writing a report for
An Bord Pleanala. That document could sway the agency to grant or refuse
permission for the new port.
Carrigaline based Cllr Seamus McGrath says the County Council CEO should be
consulting with locals before writing his report
