Next Monday – June 23rd – will be Bonfire Night, or “Bonna”.
It’s the busiest night of the year for the Fire Services, and last year
Cork City Fire Brigade was called out almost 70 times.
There are unsupervised bonfires, and often the emergency services are
attacked by unsupervised children when they arrive to tackle blazes.
Local residents also complain that bonfires are being used as an excuse to
burn household rubbish on green areas of some estates.
The City Council are again organising safe events at
Pophams Field, Farranree
Kilmore park, Knocknaheeney
Loughmahon Park, Mahon
Glenamoy Park, Mayeifld
Clashduv Park, Togher
Sinn Fein Cllr Chris O’Leary lives in Mahon and says already there have
been fires there in recent days
