Fianna Fáil local election candidate for Cork City South Central, Tom O’Driscoll, has called on the people of Cork to vote for the City in the ‘Foodie Town of Ireland’ awards, which will determine the top town in Ireland to eat out.
Mr O’Driscoll commented: “Cork is one of ten towns nominated for the ‘Foodie Town of Ireland’ Awards. The competition is being run by the Restaurants Association of Ireland. The prize on offer is a cash sum of €5,000 plus a postcard marketing campaign from An Post.
“By being known as the Food Capital of Ireland; it will encourage more visitors from within and outside the country to come to Cork. The number and variety of restaurants, cafes and pubs that provide a range of Irish, European and world foods has been very noticeable in recent years and the nomination of Cork is a recognition of this.
“I want Cork to be known throughout Ireland as a food hub and I would encourage people to go online and vote for Cork as the ‘Foodie Town of Ireland’
“The public vote will count for half the votes, combined with judges who will be paying pre-arranged visits to Cork. It is important that the people of Cork get behind this initiative, which would be a huge benefit to many city centres businesses which have been hit by repeated flooding in recent years.”
