Work has begun on the €1.5m renewal of Blackrock village in Cork Harbour.
Located 13 minutes drive from Cork City Centre it will have a large plaza area; with steps down to the water, and new street lamps, and benches.
The wall of the old Ursaline Convent will be knocked to widen the road towards Mahon later.
Fine Gael Cllr Des Cahill lives near Blackrock Village and says key sections of the City are being improved bit by bit. Many walkers use the
old Blackrock railway line for exercise every evening, Cllr Cahill also says the upgrade works will enhance the area.
