A Labour MEP who was spat at while in Cork last week has revealed more
details about the assault,
The incident happened around 6pm last Wednesday when Phil Prendergast
was walking in Turners Cross on her way to a funeral home.
An unidentified man in his late 30s or early 40s called her “labour
scum”, and spat in her eye
Miz Prendergast – who wears contact lenses – reported the matter to
Gardai and is waiting on medical tests to confirm no disease was
transmitted.
She explained the reason for the story only emerging at the weekend
was that she didn’t want to make a fuss, and even her campaign team
only learned of it when they saw an unscheduled medical appointment in
her diary on Friday.
Phil Prendergast says she has not felt the need to increase her
security since the incident.
TheCork.ie spoke with Phil Prendergast today while she was canvassing
for the forthcoming elections in the English Market.
