A Cork success story
Sales of Irish Whiskey abroad are increasing, and most is produced in Midleton by Irish Distillers Pernod Richard where Jameson is the core product.
130 people are employed by the company there, and a further 40 in the Jameson Experience Tourist centre.
95 percent of all Irish spirits are exported, 40 percent to the USA, and an increasing amount to Africa including Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and
Mozambique.
But here in Ireland excise duty on a bottle has gone up 4 euro over the past 2 years, which is shrinking domestic sales.
We’ve been speaking with Peter Morehead from Irish Distillers about exports
Peter Morehead says other companies are now seeing the opportunities of distilling for export
