The state of roads in County Cork should improve over the next month.
The Acting County Managed Declan Daly has lifted a ban on overtime for
roads workers to try and tackle the growing problem of potholes.
The cash strapped County Council has had to curtail all spending since
the recession began – including roads – but the elected County
Councillors from all parties now agree road conditions are “crisis
levels” and they had been calling on the Manager to act.
For the next three weeks roads workers will be allowed overtime to
fill potholes and similar work.
Labour Cllr Ronan Sheehan welcomed the news but says in the longer
term Central Government needs to give County Hall more money for
roads, he says while canvassing Roads are the number one issue on the
doorsteps
