Cork Chamber and the Faculty of Commerce in the College of Business &
Law, UCC, have launched the annual Transition Year (TY) Business
Awards for 2014, which is kindly sponsored by BNY Mellon, a global
investments company and major employer in Cork.
Cork Chamber Chief Executive, Conor Healy said, “The Chamber is
delighted to support these awards again in 2014. Ongoing supports and
initiatives from businesses in education are key to instilling a
greater interest and awareness of entrepreneurship amongst young
people as a future career option. The TY awards play a key role in
encouraging and supporting young entrepreneurs in Ireland. The Chamber
would like to acknowledge the generous sponsorship of BNY Mellon and
looks forward to working with UCC in ensuring another successful year
for the TY Business Awards Programme.”
Anne Wallace, Student Recruitment & Liaison Officer with the College
of Business & Law, UCC, stated that “this competition provides
students with an opportunity to explore the business environment in an
innovative way. In previous years, the quality of entries into this
competition has been impressive and we hope that schools throughout
the region will get involved.”
Heather Crowley-Kerr, Head of Fund Accounting at BNY Mellon said, “BNY
Mellon is once again delighted to continue its support to the TY
Business Award Project. We welcome the opportunity to foster
entrepreneurship and innovation in the next generation of business
leaders”
Students participating in the 2014 Transition Year Business Awards are
requested to submit a 1,500 word project based on their experience of
their school’s Mini Company/Enterprise. This year, the judging panel
are asking students to Review the Resources Available to a Start-Up
Business and Comment on the Key Framework, Infrastructure or Resource
Necessary to Grow Your Business. Projects must show creative and
original ideas, tell the story of how their business developed and
show how their business impacts on job creation. Students should also
to prepare a brief synopsis of their project to present at the awards
ceremony in the event that they are chosen as prize-winners or highly
commended. The prize for this year’s winning team is EURO 1,000 for their
school and EURO 500 and EURO 250 for those schools in second and third place.
The closing date for entries is 20th March 2014 and completed projects
should be sent to Anne Wallace, College of Business & Law, Room
3.03A, O’Rahilly Building, UCC with the prize-giving ceremony taking
place in the Aula Maxima, UCC on the 9th April 2014.
