Tourism Ireland has welcomed today’s announcement by KLM of a new daily flight from Amsterdam to Cork, commencing at the end of March 2020. The new service will provide a welcome boost for tourism from the Dutch market to Cork and the South of Ireland next year.
Niall Gibbons, CEO of Tourism Ireland, said: “Today’s announcement is really good news for tourism to Cork and the South of Ireland for 2020. It will certainly expand travel options for Dutch holidaymakers wishing to visit this part of Ireland. We already work very closely with KLM and we look forward to co-operating with them, and with Cork Airport and other tourism interests, to maximise the promotion of this new service from Amsterdam. As an island, the importance of convenient, direct, non-stop flights cannot be overstated – they are absolutely critical to achieving growth in inbound tourism.
“In 2018, we welcomed 247,000 Dutch visitors to the island of Ireland, whose visits generated around €122 million in revenue. Next week, we will outline our plans for 2020, when we will be pulling out all the stops to ensure that Cork and the island of Ireland continues to increase its share of travel business from the Netherlands and our other international markets.”
