Members of the public will NOT be given the chance to make submissions
on the Pay Parking
situation in Douglas.
Introduced 18 months ago, and run by a private company on behalf of
Cork County Council,
pay parking has been controversial in the Village.
More than 4-thousand tickets have been issued,
many business owners say they are losing customers,
and some residents are unhappy they cannot park outside their own houses.
At this weeks County Council meeting
Fianna Fail Cllr Seamus McGrath and Independent Cllr David Boyle
had a motion asking officials to loosen the rules by making the first
hour of parking free
and to ask the public for their thoughts.
However the motion from the two local Councillors was defeated by 24
votes to 16.
Fianna Fail’s Seamus McGrath is critical of the Fine Gael dominated
Council saying
some Councillors voted on party lines, and not in the best interests of Douglas
Independent County Councillor David Boyle
says businesses in Douglas village are finding it hard to attract customers
because of the strict parking rules
