Students from across the Cork Region are honing their entrepreneurial
skills and preparing for Christmas trade at the South Cork Schools
Enterprise Christmas Fair taking place in Douglas Village Shopping
Centre on Tuesday, 10 December 2013.
This year, more than 100 companies will take part in the fair,
showcasing their products ranging from talking monster recycling bins
called Little Green Monsters, to Splash Apparel, which creates
tie-dyed clothing for festivals to SIZEWISE, a card for online
shoppers that converts foreign clothing sizes to the Irish equivalent.
These and many more innovative products developed by students will be
on display and on sale to the general public in Douglas on the day.
“This year the number of student enterprises participating in the
South Cork Schools Enterprise Christmas Fair has more than doubled”,
said Sean O’Sullivan, CEO, South Cork Enterprise Board (SCEB). “This
is really promising for student entrepreneurship in the Region, and we
are delighted to be supporting the students, and their understanding
of business activity, through this Christmas Fair and the Student
Enterprise Programme”.
The Student Enterprise Christmas Fair is a key event in the South Cork
Schools Enterprise calendar, with students from across the South Cork
region participating in the programme which promotes entrepreneurship
amongst second level students.
“Inspiring young minds and giving students the skills and confidence
to become young entrepreneurs is at the heart of the Schools
Enterprise Programme,” explained Sean O’Sullivan.
“The Christmas Fair is a huge event in the programme calendar, and
this year has been our most successful to date. We aim to drive
entrepreneurship among our talented young people and pave the way for
national award opportunities in the Croke Park in April 2014. We have
seen firsthand how this tailored programme enhances creativity,
improves communication skills, builds confidence and fosters an
enterprise culture among the students in Cork”, said Anne Moore,
Co-ordinator of the SCSEP.
As well as the first experience of business activity and trade for the
student enterprises, the Christmas Fair will also provide the
opportunity for a judging panel to interview the student entrepreneurs
about their mini-companies and. There will be an overall mini-company
winner at the Christmas Fair as well as a number of prizes presented
for categories including best display, best marketing, best
innovation, best interview with judges and best team spirit.
All are welcome to visit the South Cork Schools Enterprise Christmas
Fair on Tuesday, 10 December from 9am-1pm in Douglas Village Shopping
Centre.
