€175,000 Fermoy Weir Funding for Cork County Council Confirmed
The confirmation of a maximum of €175,000 funding from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government for Fermoy Weir has been welcomed by Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice & Equality, David Stanton, and Fine Gael general election candidate for Cork East, Pa O’Driscoll.
Speaking at the Fine Gael Think in Garryvoe Minister David Stanton and Pa O’Driscoll said: We were very pleased to receive confirmation from, Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy TD, that his Department is willing to make this once-off allocation to Cork County Council towards the repair of Fermoy Weir. The funding will be used by Cork County Council to allow it to carry out initial planning and scoping works for the repairs to the weir.
“Minister Murphy has advised that while the maintenance and repair of weirs does not come under the remit of his Department given the strategic importance of Fermoy Weir from an economic, social and environmental perspective a commitment to a maximum of €175,000 is being made to allow Cork County Council to progress the much-needed repair project.
“We, and our colleagues on Cork County Council, Councillors Kay Dawson and Noel McCarthy who have worked very hard to secure this funding, are delighted that Minister Murphy has confirmed his Department’s commitment to the project in light of the importance of Fermoy Weir not just to Cork County Council but to the community in Fermoy and the surrounding area”, concluded David Stanton and Pa O’Driscoll.
