The Garda Commissioner says he won’t preempt the findings of a HSE and Garda inquiry into the taking of Roma children from their families.
The two state agencies are currently compiling reports, which will be given to the Children’s Ombudsman
for consideration.
They focus on how a 7-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy were taken from separate Roma couples in Dublin and the Midlands, and placed into HSE care after public reports that the children might not belong to the families.
DNA tests and further investigations later proved that the 2 blond haired, blue eyed children did belong with the Roma couples in question.
The Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan says the welfare of Children always comes first in the force
