Calls it an investment in sport and in the community
Fianna Fáil Cork North West TD, Aindrias Moynihan, has welcomed the allocation of a €158,000 equipment grant to the Rowing Ireland National Rowing Centre at Farran Woods, Ovens, Co Cork, from the Sports Capital Grants calling it “a significant investment in the sport and in the community.”
He commented, “I spoke with the Minister for Sport, when he visited the National Rowing Centre, recently and stressed the tremendous benefit which would arise from providing a grant to the Centre. It is fantastic to see the amount which has been provided in Farran.
“As a country Ireland has enjoyed great success in recent years, winning an array of medals in European, World and Olympic competitions. This success has created a great feel good factor for the country. The grant awarded today will help the National Rowing centre to build on that success, and hopefully see Ireland win more rowing honours in the future.
“Similarly, by improving the National Rowing facility, it will be a more attractive location for training and for bigger competitions. This grant will hopefully help to bring more visitors and competitors to the area. The National Rowing Centre is a great resource in the Lee Valley area, and the state should support it fully, both to develop rowing, and to attract an economic spinoff for the region” concluded Deputy Moynihan.
