The proposals of the Energy Regulator (CER) to half the reconnection and disconnection fee are welcome but don’t go far enough.
Thats according to Labour Cllr John Mulvihill Senior from Cobh.
He was responding to the consultation paper on disconnection fees from the Energy Regulator published this week.
There has been a large increase in disconnections since the recession began, Nationally there are now about 2,500 electricity disconnections every month. and over 4,000 gas disconnections have occurred so far this year.
cllr Mulvihill says pre-payment metres have worked in Northern Ireland and would allow people to control their usage without fear of disconnection
If this policy was put in place it would give some relief to the many cork families facing disconnections in Cork this winter.
