Carrigaline & District Lions Club Annual Cycle Classic was launched today at Marymount Hospice by Simon Coveney Tánaiste. (who has participated in the cycle on a number of occasions in the past), as well as Event Co-ordinator, Mark Ginn and also Club president Eoin Stack were in attendance.

This year’s event is again kindly sponsored by Mr John O’Connor of Victoria Cross Cycles. The cycle classic is the club’s major fundraiser and this is the 28th year of the cycle, which started in 1991 with18 cyclists who raised €2,500. The support for the cycle classic grew steadily over the years and last year approximately 150 cyclists took part. The cycle classic has raised over €700,000 for local charities in twenty-eight years. The majority of monies raised have been donated to cancer-related charities.
This year’s beneficiaries will be, Carrigaline Lions Youth Project, Marymount Hospice and other Lions Club Charities.
This years’ cycle takes place on Saturday 28th September, Starting in Carrigaline along the Wild Atlantic Way to West Cork, and back to Carrigaline. It is hoped that this years’ event will be bigger and better than ever.
The cycle has 35km, 70 km and 110 km routes.
Carrigaline and District Lions Club was established in 1988 and is a very active and well supported Lions Club. In its short history, it has become one of the leading Lions Clubs in Ireland and has raised in excess of two million euro since its foundation. The Club has provided 16 sheltered housing units in Carrigaline and our main project is the fantastic Youth Centre to serve the Carrigaline & District area.

This year the club was honoured at convention by being nominated Club of The Year in Ireland 2019.
The club can boast that the event Founder James O’Sullivan (RIP) was District Governor for district 1051 (Ireland) in 2010/2011.
