On the Northside of Cork City Buses linking the Glen to Blackpool will
be back on the road this morning after a climbdown by Bus Eireann on
the axing of the bus connection in the face of community protests.
Socialist Party councillor Mick Barry this morning congratulated local
residents who have been involved in a “people power” campaign to
reverse bus cutbacks but warned that the community campaign would
continue as Bus Eireann have failed to address the issue of the need
for a bus link between the Glen and Dublin Hill. Many families from
the Glen have children going to school in St Aidan’s Community College
in Dublin Hill.
From this morning the 209 bus from Patrick’s Street will make three
runs through the Glen to Blackpool Shopping Centre and Blackpool
Village before returning to the city centre via the Glen.
It is understood that the National Transport Authority gave the green
light late last week for the climbdown following representations made
by Bus Eireann in Cork in the wake of the community protests.
