A former Mayor of County Cork has been elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach
of the Southern and Eastern Regional Assembly.
The AGM of the SERA took place on Friday, 13th September in Assembly
House, Waterford.
Cllr. Thomas Kinsella was elected as Cathaoirleach and Cllr. Tim
Lombard was elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach.
Their terms of office will run to May 2014.
Cllr. Tim Lombard is a member of the Southern and Eastern Regional
Assembly since September 2007. As a member of Fine Gael, Cllr.
Kinsella represents Cork County Council and the South West Regional
Authority on the Regional Assembly. Cllr. Lombard was co-opted to
Cork County Council in 2003 replacing Simon Coveney T.D. He has
gained invaluable experience while serving on numerous committees. He
has actively worked on improving roads and footpaths, tackling
anti-social behaviour, traffic problems and delivering on new amenity
facilities. Cllr. Lombard is the Fine Gael Leader on the HSE board, he
is also the first young councillor to be appointed to the strategic
policy committee.
The Southern & Eastern Regional Assembly was established 1999
following the designation of two regions in Ireland for EU Structural
Funds purposes. The Regional Assembly was the Managing Authority for
the 2000-2006 S&E Regional Operational Programme and currently manages
the 2007-2013 Regional Operational Programme and the Ireland/Wales
Interreg programme. The Assembly is involved in the management,
project selection and monitoring of a number of EU co-financed
INTERREG Programmes and engages with Government on a wide range of
policy issues affecting regional development in Ireland. The Assembly
is rarely reported by Cork media outlets because it’s meetings take
place in Waterford.
