Payments expected to commence in Q1, 2019
Fianna Fáil TD, Aindrias Moynihan has secured confirmation from Minister for Social Protection, Regina Doherty that additional staff will be deployed to deal with the review of pensions which is due to get underway shortly.
Deputy Moynihan was commenting after questioning the Minister during Oral Questions on the Government’s strategy to deal with the pensions review.
“The Minister, during her reply, indicated that additional temporary staff in her Department would be deployed from this week to deal with the increased workload.
“Many pensioners have been in touch with me directly to outline their concern that due to the large volume of work, the original deadline may not be met.
“Pensioners are anxious that a lot of time has passed since the review was announced, and none of the required work seems to have taken place.
“The Minister informed me yesterday the review would be getting underway shortly with a view to ensuring that payments beginning in the first quarter of 2019.
“I will be keeping the pressure on to ensure that there is no slippage in this commitment, but it will be a relief to many pensioners that the Minister has accepted my call for additional staff to deal with the workload,” concluded Moynihan.
