A special meeting of Cork City Council will take place this evening where potential Presidential candidates can make presentations to councillors in a bid to seek the nomination of Cork City Council.
The Special Meeting will take place at 7pm.
This follows Cork City Council being contacted by a number of persons seeking a nomination to run.
Potential candidates – except for the sitting President, Michael D Higgins who can nominate himself – interested in running for the presidency must be nominated by four local authorities or 20 members of the Oireachtas.
The presidential election itself will take place on October 26 following the signing of the election order by the Minister for Local Government, Eoghan Murphy last week.
