Cork City travel to Waterford for their rescheduled EA SPORTS Cup tie tonight.
City come into the game on the back of a 2-0 win over Bohemians at Dalymount Park on Friday night, their third consecutive win since suffering a league defeat (2-1) away to Waterford.
The home side come into the game on the back of a 2-0 win over bottom side Bray Wanderers, a result which got them back to winning ways after two consecutive defeats.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Cork City manager John Caulfield said: “We will make a lot of changes, with the three games in a week. A lot of the lads are absolutely shattered after the other night, but it is great for the boys on the bench and we will play a number of our 19s as well. For the 19s, it is a great opportunity because quite a few of them have potential and we want to see what they are like in this environment. We will have a competitive team but is a situation where our supporters who travel will see some new faces as well.”
“Everyone who starts will get a chance to show what they can do. I think the lads on the bench can see that, if they do well tomorrow night, they have a real opportunity to get a start in the league games.”
“We are looking forward to the game and I am excited to see how the lads perform, because it will be a massive challenge. This morning, at training, they are all busting to play because some of them haven’t played since the Munster Senior Cup Final. It’s a cup tie and our plan tomorrow night is to go down and win the match.”
Garry Buckley returns after suspension, while Steven Beattie serves the final game of his ban. Johnny Dunleavy is back in training but is not yet in contention. Under 19 players David Harrington, Ronan Hurley, Rory Doyle, Alec Byrne and Cian Murphy are also added to the squad.
