Fine Gael, Senator Colm Burke, Cork North Central welcomes the news that a controlled pedestrian crossing is to be installed in Shandon Street in the coming weeks.

“There is an elderly population using the services of Irwin’s Pharmacy on one side and the Post Office on the other side of the busy road and I understand from the Director of Services for Roads and Transport that the Crossing will be positioned between both services.”
“The Crossing which will cater to the footfall coming from the Blarney Street and the Gurranabraher area en route to North Main Street will ensure that the elderly population of the area can conduct their business in safety as there have been a number of accidents in endeavouring to negotiate the busy traffic while crossing the road in recent years”.
“I have had numerous requests from the local population who call to my advice clinic on the Street, but up to now the funding has not been available.
“The crossing is part of the programme of works currently underway in the City centre and it is anticipated that it will be provided by the end of the month. “
