Fianna Fáil TD, Aindrias Moynihan has said that Bus Éireann has confirmed to him that a review of the 220/220X bus service that links Ballincollig to Cork City will take place in the short term with a view to increasing capacity and frequency.
Deputy Moynihan was commenting after complaining to local Bus Éireann management about delays and poor service in recent weeks and months.
“I have been informed by Bus Éireann’s Southern Regional Manager that ‘in conjunction with the National Transport Authority we [Bus Éireann] will soon undertake a network review of Route 220/220X in order to improve service delivery.’
“This is a positive development as I know that may Ballincollig residents are very frustrated with the current service linking them to the city for work and education.
“Traffic congestion in the city and further afield is nothing new. However, there has been a significant deterioration in the service over the past number of months.
“Bus Éireann management should complete the route review as quickly as possible to improve the service for the people of Ballincollig who need it to go about their daily lives.
“While of course Ballincollig commuters are thankful that the cost of their commute has dropped in recent months, reliability is crucially important.
“I will continue to press the case to Bus Éireann management for increased capacity and improved frequency on this route. It’s a core commuting route for thousands of people in Ballincollig and it needs to be improved significantly.
