Cork Volunteer Bureau is set for a funding boost, Fine Gael Senator, Tim Lombard, has said.

Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Seán Kyne TD, has approved a national allocation of €3.5 million to support volunteering across Ireland, of which €123,800 has been earmarked for Cork.
Senator Lombard said: “Cork Volunteer Bureau is a major asset to our county; many organisations, projects, and initiatives depend on our local volunteers, so I am delighted that the important work the Bureau is being recognised.
“The Cork Volunteer Bureau plays a vital role in enabling volunteering locally, allowing them to give back to the community. The Bureau publicises opportunities and facilitates volunteers who want to feel connected to their community, which helps foster a sense of involvement and promotes good citizenship.
Minister Seán Kyne TD said: “Volunteering positively impacts every community across every city and county in Ireland with people contributing on a regular basis in all sorts of ways.
“I am pleased to be able to approve an increased allocation of core funding for Volunteer Ireland bringing the total to €351,800.
“Volunteer Ireland provides a number of important supports to volunteer centres including the I-VOL national volunteering database. A further €100,000 is being allocated to support the Volunteer Information Services which operates in counties not currently served by volunteer centres.”
