It was a sunny Bank Holiday weekend in Cork, and it the weather is still
with us today.
Poland’s Bartosz Muzerski won an incredible duel with Clonliffe Harriers
Gary O’Hanlon to take the Cork City Marathon by just 23 seconds on Monday
morning
O’Hanlon was aiming to make it two in eight days following his victory in
Newry last weekend but it just proved too much of an ask as Muzerski pulled
away in the final mile to win in a time of 2:28:29.
The winner of the women’s marathon was Olympian Pauline Curley. She edged
out Angela McCann who was bidding for three in a row with a course record
2:47:44.
Last year’s full marathon winner Freddie Kearon made it a set when he won
the half marathon this year in a record time of 1:08:33 while Lizzie Lee
was first home in the Women’s half marathon.
The winning relay team was East Cork Athletic Club who came home in
2:18:06. More than 8,000 runners braved the warm temperatures including
this year for the first time nearly 500 transition year students taking
part in the Youth Challenge.
