The traders & business people on Washington Street have come together in recent months to form “Washington dC” (District of Cork). This initiative is aimed at welcoming all to the area, not alone those seeking quality food and drink but also those seeking legal, medical & property services together with a diverse range of retail possibilities.
Washington St. has in recent years welcomed a number of new businesses which have added even more character to what could already have been described as eclectic. The street can now pride itself on its unique product offering so many niche businesses existing side by side with the extensive range of legal practitioners and food & drink establishments.
Washington St. is also unique in that there are no “High St. Retailers” – most of the businesses are local operators who provide an extraordinary and diverse range. You have some of the prime public houses in Cork with Reardon’s and Costigans’s to the fore, fine dining includes new arrivals Rachels and Spit Jacks while Cameron Bakery provides bakery treats. Fashion trends are covered by Prime Time & Curvy Lady while hidden gems of olden times can be found in Raven Stamps & Records & Relics. For legal services you are spoiled for choice with a multitude of practitioners while Washington St. Medical Centre and Santrys Pharmacy will look after your health requirements.
A recent initiative by Washington dC in association with Cork City Council has seen a large Christmas tree erected adjoining the Courthouse. The Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald switched on the lights on the Christmas tree on Friday November 24th.
