Hospitality Management students from Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) are to prepare a fine dining seafood dinner experience for the public, to help raise funds for the RNLI.
The event which takes place in the Tourism and Hospitality Department of the college on Thursday 9 November will see students, prepare, cook and present a four course seafood meal using the freshest produce from coastal waters.
Dr Noel Murray, Head of the Tourism and Hospitality Department said that the students were looking forward to this event: ‘As part of the hotel management course, the students plan and organise a number of these events as part of their programme.
‘It is an absolute pleasure for us to do something a little bit different and to host one of these evenings for the RNLI. We can guarantee a high standard of food and service for guests who on this occasion are in for a treat as we are putting on a fine dining seafood dinner consisting of four delicious courses. Guests can enjoy their meal knowing the proceeds of their ticket will go towards saving lives at sea.’
Guests attending will enjoy a drinks reception starting at 6pm prior to sitting down for dinner at 6.30pm. The menu consists of Ballycotton crab and Kinsale smoked salmon to start, followed by Castletownbere seafood chowder. The main dish will be a slice of Crosshaven cod on a bed of baby spinach served with a buerre blanc sauce and rosemary potatoes. For dessert, guests can look forward to a chocolate custard cake with exotic fruit gelee and caramelised banana. The fine dining experience will come to a close at 9.30pm.
Tickets priced €30 can be purchased through Eventbrite. Guests can also bring their own wine to enjoy during dinner if they wish.
Throughout the RNLI’s Fish Supper campaign, people from across Ireland have been hosting a fish-themed meal for friends and family to help the charity to continue saving lives at sea.
The RNLI relies on the generosity of the public to fund its lifesaving services, and the charity’s volunteer lifeboat crew members often sacrifice their precious meal times at a moment’s notice, answering the call of their pagers to save lives at sea.
Mary Creedon, RNLI Community Fundraising Manager said: ‘Our volunteer crew members in Cork and right across Ireland know their pagers can beep at any time. Whether they are at work, asleep in bed or about to tuck into their dinner – they will stop what they are doing and get straight to the lifeboat station, ready to save lives.
‘Holding a Fish Supper is a great way for people to support the RNLI and we are so grateful to the students and staff of Cork Institute of Technology for offering one of its restaurant nights to a Fish Supper event and for the RNLI to benefit from the proceeds.’
Last year, RNLI lifeboat crews across Ireland launched 1,136 times rescuing 1,649 people.
It costs over €566,027 per day to run the RNLI, and the charity relies on donations from the public to continue its lifesaving service.
