No, Cork Airport is not getting a third runway! rather it is the third occurrence of a – now annual – 5km charity run which takes place on an acutal runway.
Calling all runners of the South of Ireland, Cork Airport’s popular and unique 5KM run as part of SPAR’s Fitlive series, in partnership with the Irish Independent, returns this November.
Not only is the event suitable for all levels of fitness, it is also one of Ireland’s most unique runs, as participants will be gracing the runway of Cork Airport for the 5KM route at midnight on Friday, 17th November.
Cork Airport’s Managing Director, Niall MacCarthy said: “For one special night, the Cork Airport team will grant a rare opportunity for participants to run our runway. The event always proves very popular and it’s a great way for the runners and indeed our passengers of the South of Ireland to see the airport like never before.
“We welcomed 2,000 participants from across the South of Ireland last year, with similar numbers expected again. This year’s participants will be joined and motivated by fitness coach Karl Henry and Irish Olympians Derval O’Rourke and Mark Clohisey. Health and wellbeing are very important to the Cork Airport team and we are delighted to be a part of such a superb initiative. I myself am very much looking forward to the excitement and atmosphere that this event always brings”, he added.
The run at Cork Airport is one of the healthy initiatives that make up the SPAR FitLive.ie programme and provides families of all fitness levels the opportunity to improve their health and fitness. Those who sign up will also avail of exercise tips, workouts and running plans from Karl Henry and Mark Clohisey, along with recipes and nutrition tips from Derval O’Rourke.
Those interested in taking on the tarmac for this special midnight run, can enter on Fitlive.ie Entry costs €25 and includes a goodie bag, refreshments and fruit, race chip timing, crossing line video and a special event t-shirt.
