CCTV Cameras are being installed in Cork City Cemeteries to reduce crime.
Sinn Fein Cllr Henry Cremin proposed the motion after anti-social behaviour in “Saint Joseph’s Cemetery”, Ballyphehane first in June 2012, and later in December when headstones were vandalised.
Cork City Council has agreed to install 24 hour CCTV cameras at the four municipal cemetries in the City, and the system will be switched on in the next 6 weeks.
Lord Mayor Fine Gael Cllr John Buttimer hopes the cameras will deter gangs of youths who have been hanging around some graveyards at night
