Leevale Athletic Club mark 50th Anniversary by officialy opening new ‘Leevale High Performance Centre, Farranlea Road, Cork’
On the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the club, Leevale AC’s International heros cut the tape to Open Club’s High Performance centre, on Saturday July 15th, 2017.
Seven of Leevale’s international heroes, Marcus O’Sullivan, Lizzie Lee, Michelle Finn, Catherine Dunne, John Twomey, Donie Walsh and Ailish McSweeney, jointly cut the tape to officially open the club’s High Performance Centre at Farranlea Road .
The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Simon Coveney, T.D., Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Micheal Martin T.D., Michael McGrath T.D., Cork City Lord Mayor Councillor Tony Fitzgerald, Cork County Lord Mayor Councillor Declan Hurley, Bishop John Buckley, senators Colm Burke and Jerry Buttimer, along with a multitude of athletics personalities, including Georgina Drumm, President, Athletics Ireland, John Treacy CEO Sport Ireland and Cork City Sports committee.
There was a large gathering of Leevale members past & present to share in the celebrations. Speeches were made by, Cork City Lord Mayor Cllr Tony Fitzgerald, Minister Simon Covney, Finbarr O’Brien, President Leevale AC, John Treacy CEO Sports Ireland, Marcus O’Sullivan Leevale Olympian, Lizzie Lee Leevale Olympian and Donal Murnane Chairman Leevale AC.
