Rob Heffernan, World Race Walking Champion launched ‘CUH Charity and Bishopstown GAA Wheel4Life 2017’ today.
Wheel4Life takes place on Sunday 27th August from the Bishopstown GAA Club, with three routes, all starting and finishing from Bishopstown GAA. The 100Km challenge goes to the beautiful and scenic Old Head of Kinsale and back; the 40Km leisure cycle goes to Inishannon and back; while parents and children can choose to walk, run or cycle the 8Km Family Fun Day route. Everyone attending the event will be treated to complimentary food, refreshments and family entertainment on return.
All proceeds from the event will support Cardiac Services in CUH and in particular the purchase of a MRI Scanner to enhance services for patients at Cork University Hospital.
Speaking about the event, Head of CUH Charity, Miriam Forde said: ‘Our Wheel4Life event will have something for everyone – a sportif 100Km, a leisure cycle at 40Km and a 8Km Family Fun Day option. For this end of summer challenge, we are inviting seasoned cyclists, leisure cyclists, families and children to get active, get involved and join us on the day for some extra special fun’.
Chairperson of the Bishopstown GAA Cycling Committee Roy Galvin said: ‘We are delighted to work with CUH Charity again on our joint Wheel4Life event this year. We are calling on all Bishopstown GAA members, their family and friends, local businesses and all local communities to come and join us for what will be a fantastic and enjoyable family fun day for all ages!’.
Registration fees are €50 for the 100Km and 40Km cycle, which includes a free cycling jersey (before August 1) or €35 without a jersey and any additional sponsorship is welcome. 100Km and 40Km cyclists are advised to register well in advance of the event date to secure a jersey. Those taking part in the free 8Km route do not need to pre-register but are welcome to make a donation on the day in lieu of paying a fee.
