Fianna Fáil Leader, Micheál Martin TD, has announced the appointment of Deirdre Kelly as a Local Area Representative in the Dunmanway area of the Cork South West constituency. Deputy Martin said: “I am delighted to announce that Deirdre has been appointed as local area representative for the Dunmanway area. Deirdre has always worked extremely hard for her local community in a voluntary capacity and her appointment will continue that good work. “It is essential that Fianna Fáil play a constructive and positive role in politics, bringing forward policies and solutions to the problems being faced by people in their daily lives. Deirdre will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience into this role.” Deirdre worked abroad for a number of years before returning to her native Cork. Deirdre works as a legal executive in a law firm in Cork city, and is a Director on the Board of Legal Executives. Deirdre also volunteers as a tutor with the VEC in Dunmanway and acts as a facilitator with Aware. Deirdre commented: “The General Election of 2011 was a pivotal moment in prompting me to take a more proactive role within Fianna Fáil. I recognise the fact that Fianna Fail has always been identified as the party of the working class, the very cohort of people that have been most affected by the decisions of the current Government. “It is my belief that Fianna Fáil has turned a corner and the Party has to continue to work to regain the trust of the electorate. I am confident that this relationship can indeed be re-established and the role of the Area Representative will prove vital in this regard. I am now looking forward to working with the local Councillors within the Cork South West constituency.”
