Today the annual Dragon Boat Challenge takes place in Cork City; to add to the excitement of the event Lord Mayor Councillor Des Cahill is sponsoring the entry of teams comprising members of the front line services, including the Gardaí, Fire fighters, Army, Navy, Ambulance and Prison Services to compete in the Lord Mayors Inter-service challenge.
The event takes place from 2 to 6pm, starting at the iconic R&H Hall. Crews will race 250m to the finish line at Lapp’s Quay, powered by the beat of the dragon’s drum. The Crews will consist of 16 paddlers and 1 drummer. A trained helm will be provided to all crews and will be aboard to direct and assist crews.
