Cork City Football Club are delighted to confirm that Danny Furlong has signed for the club.
The 23 year-old joins the club from Wexford Youths, where he topped the First Division scoring charts with 13 goals in 24 appearances last season.
The striker spoke to CorkCityFC.net this evening shortly after putting pen to paper on a two year contract, and said: “I’m delighted to have signed for the club and am really looking forward to this next stage of my career. I spoke with Tommy during the week and was very impressed at what he had to say. Having played against Cork City in the First Division in 2010 and 2011, I was very impressed with the support and the atmosphere, and that was an important factor for me. When I met with him, Tommy set out to me what he wants to do at the club which was important, and I really liked the ambition he has for the club.”
“There are some fantastic players at the club, so it will be a challenge for me to break into the team firstly, but that is a challenge I am relishing, so it is a matter of settling in and trying to win a place in the team and then seeing what happens after that.”
Speaking shortly after Furlong signed for the club this evening, City manager Tommy Dunne said: “I am very pleased that Danny has signed for the club. It is another addition in the attacking area of the squad, which will increase the competition for places within the squad. Danny has done very well in the First Division over the last couple of years, scoring goals on a regular basis, so we are hoping that he can now settle into the Premier Division and continue that good form. He has committed to the club for two years, and both Danny and I are looking forward to the future.”
