Labour TD Sean Sherlock has called for an increase in funding for energy efficiency across Cork city and county as a practical way to combat climate change and reduce costs for families and their home heating bills.
“Climate change is not a far flung idea anymore,” said Deputy Sherlock at the Labour Party conference in Wexford.
“It is here now and we have to address that in a way that will have an immediate impact. An increase in funding for more energy efficiency schemes is required. Such an increase in funding would benefit not only the reduction of fossil fuels but would save Cork families significant money on their bills.”
Deputy Sherlock stressed that the issue of climate change is non-partisan and requires a cross party approach to see success. The Labour Party published a comprehensive discussion document on climate change at their conference in Wexford.
“We have to build a coalition across the political spectrum as this is the biggest issue of our time,” said Deputy Sherlock.
“We all have our part to play. It’s going to take money and it’s going to take time. We must build a fund to provide these funds as a matter of priority.”
