Preparations for Summer Exams being hampered

Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North West, Aindrias Moynihan has said that 3rd level students are having their preparations for the summer exams disrupted and disturbed by the ongoing Bus Éireann strike.
Deputy Moynihan was commenting as the strike entered its 18th day with little progress made at the talks between unions and management.
“Students from areas such as Ballincollig and Macroom who commute daily to the city rely on the commuter service to attend lectures, lab sessions and tutorials.
“While some may be able to rely on parents to drop them into UCC or CIT, not everyone can. Students are missing classes and this will; I have no doubt, affect their preparations for the exams due to start next month.
“It’s totally unfair on these students, as well as thousands of workers, older people and those who need to visit the city to shop or make a hospital appointment.
“Unions and management must both compromise, and the Minister for Transport, Shane Ross needs to come down from his ivory tower and accept that increased state financial support for the public bus network is necessary to bring both sides in the dispute closer.
“The strike needs to end soon for the good of the workers, the company, and all the passengers who rely on the services provided daily,” concluded Moynihan.
