The Cork East TD David Stanton (Fine Gael), is in Australia this week, as part of a ‘Promote Ireland’ programme around St Patrick’s Day. Deputy Stanton is also Minister of State for Justice and his schedule included visiting the Council House in Perth, which is going green this week, as part of Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening initiative.
The ‘Council House’ is a landmark 13-storey office building on St Georges Terrace in Perth, Western Australia. It was offially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1963, after Perth hosted the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. For most of its history, it serve as the headquarters for the City of Perth. In 2010 the outside of the building was fitted with over 22,000 LED lights which can alternate colour. The green colour is currently being displayed.
