The country’s largest community-based Science and Maths Fair will be held on Sunday, October 14th, at Mallow GAA Complex.
The event is being organised for the second successive year by the National Centre for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and Learning (NCE-MSTL) and Mallow Development Partnership. The list of Fair participants reads like a Who’s Who from the world of innovation and includes: IBM, EMC Ireland, Vistakon, Cork Institute of Technology, CALMAST, University of Limerick, Mary Immaculate College, Blackrock Castle Observatory, Limerick Institute of Technology, Dairygold, Waterford Institute of Technology, Lifetime Lab Cork, LERO, MPHC, The Civil Engineering and Materials Dept. UL, SEAI, Discover Science and Engineering, MACSI and the NIMBUS Centre. ****
Robotics, Optical Illusions, Spooky Science, Magic Shows, Lego Challenges, Floor Games and a Planetarium comprise just a small part of the programme of live demonstrations and interactive displays on the day. Behind the Fair and the fun is a more serious objective which is to encourage young people – and their parents – to embrace science and mathematics as subjects that can be the pathway to lifetime personal interests and stimulating career opportunities.****
